The story behind VivaLaFlat
It started with one sentence.
“She brings everything a landlord doesn't want: single mother, three kids and a dog.”
These words came from an estate agent. They were about me.
After three months of apartment hunting, countless applications and rejections without explanation, I knew: the problem isn't who I am. The problem is a system that sorts people out before it has even met them.
I'm Romina. I work full time, pay my rent on time, and love my three kids and my dog Woody. On paper, I'm the problem. In reality, I'm a reliable tenant.
And I'm not alone.
Wheelchair users looking for accessible apartments who get rejected anyway. Neurodivergent people who need a quiet environment but never get the chance to explain. Queer families wondering whether they're welcome. Freelancers whose income is stable but doesn't show up on a payslip. People whose names don't sound German — and who never get a reply.
VivaLaFlat is for all of us.
An app that brings people together before prejudice keeps them apart. Where the name only appears after the match. Where landlords openly say what they offer — and tenants honestly show who they are. Where no one has to justify themselves.
